My local highway department is at it again, making roadsides welcoming to ‘invasives’. The native Hog Peanut (the above half) used to be entirely covering the non-native Vinca (the lower half) until the mower came through.Love Jewelweed!…while it lasts.A day or two later, after wiping a tear from my eye (not really…it was expected), I observed what was under all of that dense canopy: a preponderance of stunted Beefsteak Plant. Touch-me-nots germinate much earlier than it does and, therefore, takes the brunt of the mid-summer hit from road crews.
